Peer to Peer Magazine

MEMBER RESOURCES from the president his edition of Peer to Peer focuses on leadership. To paraphrase Peter Drucker, the most effective leaders never say “I”, but rather “We.” They understand their job is to assemble and make the team function, with the team earning the credit for the job well done. It is the power of such team-oriented thinking that is part of our core values and what has made ILTA such a success over the years. ILTA is fortunate to have had the support of many wonderful volunteer leaders throughout our long history. We have morphed from a modest beginning as a group of individuals who banded together regarding their mutual concerns over their financial software to what we are today: an organization that delivers regular local programming/gatherings in 90+ cities worldwide, topic- based programming in the form of webinars and roadshows too numerous to count, a fantastic annual legal technology educational conference, award-winning publications and vibrant virtual communities of peers. Along that path, we have not been afraid of change –– we have embraced it. Indeed, we would not have achieved the success we have enjoyed without embracing significant change over the years. Most recently, we announced a restructuring of our peer T groups effective after the 2010 conference. The purpose of this change is to create a clearer, more sustainable peer group structure that also aligns with member interests in topic-based programming. Details about the peer group restructuring can be found on page 94. We celebrate the following new officers who will join our leadership ranks following our annual conference: Kathy Lentini will serve as Conference Co-Chair for the 2011 and 2012 conferences; Tom Morrissey will serve as Vice President of the Law Department Peer Group; Michelle Spencer will serve as Vice President of the User Support Services Peer Group; and Tim Hooks will serve as Vice President of the new Desktop and Application Services Peer Group. Please join me in welcoming these new officers who have volunteered to serve the membership in this way. As we reflect on our successful past, we continue to plan for our future. As we have done for the past decade, the Board of Directors is preparing to engage in a strategic planning session this coming November. The result of that process will be a three year strategic plan for the organization for the years 2011-2013.
