Manager to Leader

’ve always made a distinction between being a good manager and being a good leader. It’s an important one, and you know from experience that there are good and bad managers as well as good and bad leaders. A good manager might be referred to as
“running a tight ship” or “an efficiency expert.” However, neither of those compliments addresses the manager’s people skills. Similarly, good leaders are often described as “inspiring” or “motivating.” But neither of those descriptors indicates that the leader has what it takes to run a business. As I see it, while business practices and processes can be managed, people can only be led. Finally, to be truly effective in your role in IT management at a law firm — especially at the executive level — you need to be good at both.
