S h e r r y Ka p p e l 's fo u r- d e c a d e c a re e r i n l e ga l te c h n o l o g y re f l e ct s a ra re combination of innovation, trusted leadership, and unwavering dedication to the legal community. Beginning her journey on February 13, 1984, at Microsystems Engineering Corporation (MEC), Sherry entered the profession during the earliest era of legal document automation. MEC's MASS- 11 platform, originally designed for law firms running on DEC VAX/VMS systems, became foundational t e c h n o l o g y fo r d o c u m e n t - i n t e n s i ve i n d u s t r i e s worldwide. From the beginning, Sherry recognized that law firms set the standard for sophisticated document processing, and she dedicated her career to helping legal professionals navigate every major technological transformation that followed. Throughout her career, Sherry became a trusted advisor to firms across the globe, guiding them through evo l v i n g d o c u m e nt te c h n o l o g i e s w i t h e m p at hy, expertise, and a deep understanding of operational realities. Her contributions extended far beyond software implementation. She developed influential methodologies and concepts, including "Am I a Bad Document?," perfected document rebuild strategies, style management, document conversion frameworks, and her widely cited philosophy that "metadata is like cholesterol: there is good metadata, and there is bad metadata" and it is our responsibility to manage both. These approaches helped firms confidently manage complex transitions while preserving document and content integrity, usability, and trust. Sherry's leadership has consistently centered on understanding context before introducing technology.
