STEP 1: DO NO HARM So, how can legal organizations best get started on this road to AI-powered, self-service glory? Eager as they may be to get started, their first order of business is to do no harm. This means not pointing their AI towards an unstructured "blob" of data and hoping that the AI can discern what is useful or relevant information and what is not. For example, AI today struggles with determining the order of precedence and recognizing when an addendum has superseded an original agreement. Instead, organizations need to pause and ensure they have a steady foundation that AI can build upon. STEP 2: FOCUS ON INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE High-quality self-service will not work without high- quality data. As a result, legal organizations must refine their information architecture (IA) before deploying AI-powered solutions. This IA is of foundational importance: AI must be directed at final, validated content, not an unstructured pool of drafts, third-party content, and outdated documents.
