Ballard Spahr + Syllo B allard Spahr is committed to maintaining the highest data security and client confidentiality standards while remaining at the forefront of technology adoption to provide optimal client services. In 2023, Ballard explored generative AI solutions to empower their litigation teams, enhance efficiency in its litigation practice, and lower client costs. By adopting new tools to their litigation practice, they believed they could create a competitive advantage in litigation while better serving their clients. Recognizing that clients often spend a significant portion of their litigation budget on traditional document review, the firm's litigation department wanted to explore software that had the potential to transform how they conducted ediscovery. Ballard Spahr learned of Syllo in February 2023 when a firm associate introduced the litigation department chair, Jason Leckerman, to Jeff Chivers and Theo Rostow, former litigators and Syllo's co-founders. Ballard began adopting Syllo's platform, which includes features that allow attorneys to perform AI-enhanced factual investigation, case building, and content generation features in 2024. The platform included a feature for using agentic AI to automate first-level document review. Decision-makers at Ballard vetted Syllo on a variety of discrete projects, such as identifying deficiencies in 2025 WINNER PROJECT Automated First-level Review Ballard Spahr and Syllo collaboratively identified first- level document review as an area in which AI could be deployed to improve workflows and create efficiencies.
