T R A I L B L A Z E R O F T H E Y E A R / Finalist B Bradley Arant + Opus 2 radley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, an Am Law 200 firm with over 700 lawyers, partnered with Opus 2 to implement a new case management solution on an accelerated timeline. While the Opus 2 Cases solution typically deploys over several months, Bradley requested a condensed deployment, shortened to four weeks, to implement a fully operational system and ensure the team could use Opus 2 Cases to manage a large case. Accomplishing this ambitious goal required careful coordination, targeted training, and a strong partnership between Bradley and Opus 2. Before adopting Opus 2 Cases, Bradley relied on a variety of tools that required the team to dedicate time to avoiding version control issues, ensuring the proper organization of case materials, and locating key documents. Team members spent significant time reconciling multiple document versions without a centralized system. The firm needed a centralized, cloud- based case management solution to enhance case strategy, including managing transcripts, creating chronologies, and analyzing documents and other work products. Bradley appointed a dedicated project manager, Carla Upton, to work closely with Opus 2's project manager, Sam Hoffman. Together, they established clear expectations, defined roles and responsibilities, and maintained a disciplined timeline with key milestones. Bradley's internal team also prioritized proactive communication within the firm and with Opus 2 to mitigate potential challenges and ensure stakeholder alignment throughout the process. The Opus 2 team worked closely with Bradley to understand its unique needs, quickly adapt to evolving requirements, and customize the solution to align with the firm's workflows. They offered additional resources, including weekly open Q&A sessions, which provided opportunities for the Bradley team to ask questions, share concerns, and receive immediate guidance and access to Opus 2's 24/7 knowledge to answer supplementary questions. The two teams created a detailed step-by-step workflow as a comprehensive roadmap for the project. This joint effort clarified tasks and expectations at each stage and fostered a shared understanding of the project's goals. Continuous communication between the project managers from both organizations ensured that potential challenges were quickly identified and addressed. From Opus 2's perspective, one of the most essential lessons from this project is the tremendous value of having a dedicated project manager on the client side. This thoughtful approach to technology implementation, coupled with their willingness to invest in the success of the process, played a crucial role in achieving a smooth rollout, even under a tight deadline.
