THE FUTURE OF LEGAL TECHNOLOGY TAKES CENTER STAGE. 27-30 APRIL 2025 | MYRTLE BEACH, SC iltanet.org/evolve P E E R T O P E E R M A G A Z I N E · S P R I N G 2 0 2 5 3 • You can learn a lot about any technology by applying it to admin functions – especially repetitive ones that people dislike. I recently saw a demo of an AI agent that "reads" bill narratives and assigns task and phase codes. A task everyone loves, yes? Wow! Don't be afraid to pick and prioritize projects that add real value while you are learning. NOT EVERY PROBLEM IS A NAIL We tend to think of GenAI as a "thing" in and of itself. In fact, there are various applications which employ natural language, machine learning, and large language models. That doesn't mean every product on the market is equally "good" at addressing every business problem you can imagine. Think about the use case before picking the tool. Even Microsoft Co-Pilot is more properly expressed as "Co-Pilots" – multiple products, multiple code bases, designed to work in different apps in the Microsoft stack. FOCUS ON USE CASES Look at what GenAI is best at now (and keep an eye on the future). Extraction and summarization are strengths. Use them. AGENTIC AI APPEARS TO BE THE NEXT BIG THING Learn and experiment as much as you can. GOVERNANCE, GOVERNANCE, GOVERNANCE Did I mention Governance? What data are you leveraging? Do you own it or "rent" it? What are clients and internal customers saying? What are you telling them? There is so much more to discuss about Practical AI, and you will see a lot of it in the following articles. However, I hope this whets your appetite and has you turning the digital pages. Also, for more in-depth conversations, consider joining us at ILTA EVOLVE in late April in Myrtle Beach, SC. We will have a full three-day track on AI. Hope to see you there! Hugs to all! ILTA EVOLVE 2025 is one of ILTA's latest flagship events, designed to tackle the most urgent challenges in legal technology and spotlight emerging trends. Each year, the conference will focus on two critical topics shaping the industry, with the focus in 2025 being Generative Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity. 5
