ILTA'S 2024 DE+I CLIMATE SURVEY REPORT ILTANET.ORG/DEI 9 A qualitative thematic analysis was conducted on the verbatim text responses provided by the survey respondents. While specific questions were asked, the responses to these questions related to a consolidated set of major themes. The four major themes found include recommendations for improving DEI initiatives, challenges related to supporting DEI efforts, and perspectives on the relevance and impact of DEI policies. Recommendations Improving DEI Initiatives Survey respondents provided several recommendations for enhancing the organization's diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. These recommendations include focusing on more purposeful and intentional in decision- making, increasing awareness of DEI efforts through better communication, and focusing on specific DEI initiatives (increasing affinity groups and networking opportunities, increasing visibility of members and speakers from underrepresented populations, providing programming related to supporting peers from underrepresented populations, and offering mentorship programming for members from underrepresented populations). Some of the examples of specific comments submitted exemplifying these recommendations include: • Senior volunteering roles appear disproportionately white, and male given the diverse makeup of the ILTA community, as witnessed at ILTACON etc. It would be good to have some targeted research into why, for example, minority groups do not appear to put themselves forward for board service. • Continual improvement around education, support, communications and visibility of those who are diverse. • Overall - good job! Consider being more purposeful in your efforts. • While I feel respected as an LGBTQ person, I don't feel seen. There was one conference where there was an LGBTQ and Allies mixer and from that a few of us got together to visit the Pulse Nightclub memorial. This was amazing and I am still in contact with some of the people I met that day. I think more opportunities for us to connect as a community within the larger community could be beneficial.
