ata is everywhere and is everything, especially to
the litigation support professional. When it comes to
dealing with client data, we are inherently reactionary
and entrenched in handling data managed by policies
/ strategies where we are a third party. We inherit the
health of our clients' data management skill – and
lack thereof. While I initially thought about this from a litigation support
perspective, I realized that it could pertain to data in many forms and locations.
The perception of data has changed as we move to cloud, which is the
most disruptive technology change I have seen (so far) in my career. For many
years / decades the adage has been "Data is Cheap" and it has been a challenge
to continuously remind stakeholders that, while buying a hard drive at Best
Buy may be inexpensive, managed data is not cheap as it increases costs
exponentially. With cloud storage and the rapid deployment of applications,
data storage has translated to actual dollar signs (many of them) – which is
now driving business decisions.
Data, Data Everywhere
