See it as an opportunity to clean-up your communication style, review specific jargon, and walk through the process with fresh eyes. A secondary gain— it presents an opportunity to connect with your network for ideas and seek out articles highlighting tips and topics you may have previously overlooked. Also consider asking your vendor if they have a comms document/plan to leverage, which can save a lot of time and help you look polished. Whether you decide recreate it or choose to build new, there will likely be a way to use it. Sometimes the lack of something can produce great new approaches and strategies. Sometimes looking at something old with someone new generates the right conversation. Connecting with your account reps and leveraging what you inherit helps you evolve your perspective on the new role. If you need to reach backward to get it, you begin developing your new peer channel. ILTA Kelly Sweeney is the Marketing Technology Senior Manager for Wiggin and Dana LLP, her career has included both big-law and mid-sized firms as well as a period in the consultancy sphere. A self-proclaimed geek—her story in tech begins with a corporate hand-me-down Apple II paired with books on coding in Basic borrowed from the local library. Fast forward her credits now include many aspects of integrated support, with special focus on big data platforms (CRM, experience databases, collateral tracking), development of marcom strategies, and leveraging of analytical data. mobile environments, securing the platform becomes increasingly challenging. The expansion of Teams means more interaction with outside entities, potentially more document sharing, pushing the app to mobile devices and even adding telecom capabilities – and that's just taking Teams as one example. We're seeing responses that report more laptops, greater reliance on VPNs and VDI, mobile timekeeping, paperless proforma and all of the software updates being pushed to devices – updates our users have to learn. If "embracing change" was a pain point for users before, it has certainly been amplified by all the enhancements to services IT Departments are bringing. And that anxiety is mirrored by those tasked with securing the fort. For the question, "What are your top three work-from-home security concerns?," number one, at 44%, was "unsecured home Wi-Fi." A close second (42%) was "Remote device management (patching, inventory, etc.)" and third (31%) was "Data leakage via removable media." One response that's seeing a steady increase, although still only at eight on the list, is "Family members as 'help desk'". That's a tricky one, as the need for support can arise at any hour of the day, night or weekend, and sometimes texting your teenager to get off the console and lend a hand is tempting. Securing collaborative and mobile environments poses challenges as users expect greater autonomy, easier access and seamless movement between public and private resources while outside the office. Citrix ShareFile is still the leading tool for secure file transfer at 41%, and Mimecast Large File Send is challenging the leader at 32%. Microsoft OneDrive is making headway as well in a close third (31%.) Unfortunately we still have clients and co-counsel who demand the use of "consumer" file-sharing platforms (think Dropbox,) for transferring files. Thus, when we asked, "What is your firm's policy on the use of hosted consumer storage/transfer platforms (Dropbox, Box.com, Evernote, etc.)?," The leading policy by far (at 59%) is, "Allowed for client-controlled ( P A R T I A L C H A R T ) Multi-factor authentication 97% 93% 91% 85% Security awareness training 92% 90% 88% 84% Admin/privileged account or password management 88% 84% 79% 79% Phishing/Social engineering tests 88% 83% 81% 74% Removing desktop administrative rights 84% 80% 75% 78% Intrusion detection and/or prevention system 81% 74% 73% 72% Advanced threat protection 74% 74% 68% 60% Ethical walls 71% 68% 67% 61% Third-party vendor security assessment 71% 65% 64% 57% Server log retention/SIEM 68% 61% 58% 51% D O W N L O A D T H E S U M M A R Y 2 0 2 3 T E C H N O L O GY S U R V E Y Executive Summary NOW AVAILABLE!
