Fourth, change has to occur where we are. Some member IT departments
are at least 75% remote all the time. That is wonderful much of the time,
providing an improved quality of life for our team members. But it also means
they may be missing those elevator conversations that were so valuable for
taking the temperature of the user community. That temperature-taking has
to be much more purposeful now.
Finally, before we can manage a change, we need to manage the way
people feel about change in general. This means trying to take the fear out of
change. A few keys here are to remember that our users trust us, to leverage
their tech acceptance of regular changes to their phones and tablets, and to
use training tools that feel as "easy" as learning a new consumer application.
Those three keys taken together can be powerful.
And – maybe this should have been the finally – never forget that
ILTA and ILTAns are here to help you with your change. Your peers have
experience and expertise to make change more fun. (OK, so I have a weird
idea of fun!).
