79 I L T A N E T . O R G in the United States. 11 (Blue J Legal already developed a U.S. tax product). The Blue J software works by first asking a series of questions to ascertain the key facts (for instance, those facts necessary to assess whether an individual is an employee or an independent contractor). From there, Blue J Legal's A.I. analyzes the answers, analyzes the caselaw on point, and generates a classification result and confidence score, as well as supporting case law on point for the controlling factors included within the result. Dozens of hours of preliminary research and assessment can be achieved in a matter of moments. • A.I.-assisted Research. Applications of A.I. in legal research databases are resulting in powerful and intuitive platforms that are changing the way attorneys and legal researchers approach their work. The days of simply providing a list of results that potentially meet your search criteria are long gone. Research platforms are now providing highly responsive suggestions to plainly stated questions on black-letter law. Artificial intelligence allows research systems to conduct linguistic analysis around your search to determine if you're looking for cases on a particular topic, an answer to a specific question, or news on a given entity. While longstanding platforms are transforming the research experience, several newcomers have burst onto the legal research scene with a single promise: A.I. will transform the way you do research. Casetext's CARA A.I. is now one of the most widely used A.I. legal research platforms, both in law schools and in law firms (including at Fisher Phillips). Using CARA A.I., preliminary legal research is as easy as dragging and dropping legal briefs or research memos into CARA. The tool automatically finds contextually and factually relevant case law that was not cited in the underlying document – either because it was missed, because it's a more recent case, or because the opposing counsel strategically omitted it from their papers. CARA A.I. completes its assessment and generates its report in a matter of seconds.
