So, what's in store for platformization? A common infrastructure with all the aforementioned attributes of a SaaS platform provides a fertile environment among best-of-breed solutions and services to eventually become a native part of the platform. Salesforce is the ultimate proof point of platformization, and there's no reason this cannot be replicated in the legal community. ILTA Alvin Tedjamulia co-founded NetDocuments with his two partners in 1998 and is currently the company's CTO. Alvin is in charge of strategic planning, cloud engineering, R&D, and SaaS software development, as well as datacenter operations throughout the world. Prior to NetDocuments, Alvin co- founded DMS pioneer SoftSolutions, until WordPerfect and Novell acquired the company. He was also the original chief designer for Comprehensive Law Of fice (CLO), an accounting and time & billing system for Law Firms which is now a part of Aderant. Alvin, a two-time ILTA Distinguished Peer Award Lifetime Achievement Finalist and Fastcase 50 2021 honoree, is a highly regarded technology and legal industry speaker and author. It's more about a common UI. Aggregating acquired technologies under one corporate umbrella does not lead to platformization. Platformization is incredibly complex business. However, not to the end user. The whole goal of platformization is to create simplicity. Simple to adopt, simple to use, simple to do your day-to-day operations. While that requires a very complex and robust native cloud platform, it is simultaneously invisible to users. Single tenancy and platformization are incompatible. Single tenancy is simply a hosted model where a firm's servers are located off-premises, and where the legacy three-tier architecture is preserved but complemented with a browser interface. This is not SaaS, not native, not platformization.
