"Metamorphosis" is a lovely, evocative word.
In the biological sense, it's the extreme life-form changes of an organism, as
from the caterpillar to the pupa and from the pupa to the adult butterfly. Such
profound changes within the legal community drove the theme of this annual
issue of our June magazine, focused on Law2020®, wherein we provide content
to help you stretch your emergent wings.
The confluence of many factors across the past several years — rapidly changing
(dare I say, "disruptive") technologies, the global recession, increasing client
demands for cost-efficiencies, new types of legal services providers and many
more — has created a demand for talented individuals to mix and match skill
sets, experiences and passions. It's created an atmosphere for looking at people
with business acumen and client sales expertise in new, highly respected roles.
Dormant, active or newly acquired talents can crystalize and emerge as a
metamorphosed professional. [The orchestra swells.]
I think you'll find this issue a page-turner. Beyond solid advice around career
options from those who've walked the path, you can get some good input from
the Gen Y crowd (ahem, your successors!) and a really good view of how deeply
