13 I L T A N E T . O R G branch office. This doesn't mean there is a full blown reference architecture for deploying equipment to someone's home, but it does mean that we treat each connection with the same importance as a regular branch. If someone's internet is down we're not just going to leave it at that. If someone's personal laptop they use to connect into the environment is having issues we won't leave it at that either. Things that we may not have prioritized when we were more office centric have come under the microscope as these are now full time production sites. As noted, not only do employees have these expectations but clients do as well. It's important to realize that over time these expectations will change. I discussed earlier the concept of rapid escalation and the potential for de- escalation. For law firms, I think this will be an incredibly important discussion to have post-pandemic. Expectations will have changed. On one hand we have the considerations internally. Firms can decide whether or not they want to continue to support a remote posture, for example. On the other hand you have the external considerations. The difference here is, obviously, those external expectations are out of our control. There will now always be a mix of clients who want to lean more remote versus traditional face-to-face. We can't fight it anymore. The changing client expectations will put pressure on IT departments to continue to support architecture put in place during the pandemic. I encourage all of my peers in the ILTA community to take time to reflect on the lessons learned in 2020, and not just your typical year in review. It was a year like no other. We must consider the changes that took place to get where we are today and how that plays into our paths forward as individual firms and collectively as an industry. It's not just about putting ourselves ahead of the competition, it's about putting ourselves in the best positions to serve our clients and communities as we head into the uncertain future. ILTA Frank Radeck Jr is the Senior Systems Engineer at Miller Johnson, where he is responsible for critical infrastructure including networking, storage, and virtualization. Frank is also a member of the firm's Data Security Committee, and is responsible for driving initiatives to keep client data safe. When he's not juggling those responsibilities, he's at home juggling his wife, two kids, a cat, and a dog. Frank earned his BS and MS from Davenport University. Season Two of Bleeding Edge is here!
