The benefits these technologies bring to an organization depend on the problem the technology purports to solve. Generally speaking, some form of savings in terms of cost and time should be expected, along with a better overall experience for internal people, clients or both. Some of these legal technology solutions will sound like no brainers that would benefit every lawyer, regardless of practice area or business unit: document assembly and automation, AI assisted contract analysis, and passive time capture quickly come to mind. When implemented correctly, these tools not only save time and money, but also generate new revenue in some cases. Legal technology vendors naturally highlight these benefits, using one size fits all metrics to entice firms and in-house legal to purchase their products. But what about the challenges associated with implementation? More often than not, the challenges inherent in properly implementing legal technology equal or out-number the benefits.
