An Ongoing Evolution
KM doesn't stand still. As part of its ongoing evolution, KM is combining
different approaches from around the globe, and moving away from
keyword-led "search and browse" efforts towards recommended
results that leverage knowledge graphs to provide valuable, contextual
information. At the same time, the ability to measure knowledge
management activity is making it possible to continually refine the
offering and make it more useful to end users.
Knowledge is also evolving into legal process. So, things like process
mapping and matter checklists are becoming more part of the KM remit,
as well as the data structuring that legal AI and AI classification are
bringing to the previously unstructured world of legal data.
This is all for the good. KM is more important than ever, and as
it continues to evolve in new ways, it will keep on playing a central role
in helping law firms efficiently navigate an ever-changing landscape
while leveraging their most valuable asset: the collective knowledge of
the firm. ILTA
