U.S.-headquartered firms have been generally slow to translate their
website content, but there was a significant leap from 2016 where the average
score was 40.3 ("poor") to Q4 2019 where the score was 74.0 ("good"). In this
last study, there were still 13 Global 50 firms that had no translated content
that researchers could find. Of the 37 firms with translations, the average
number per firm was 4.2 languages.
Most of these large firms promote themselves as "seamlessly global" with
impressive strides toward equity, diversity and inclusion, yet do not equally
communicate with visitors whose native language is not American or British
English.
