27 I L T A N E T . O R G intervention for concerns with speed, privacy, equity, and accuracy respectively. There are countless other ways to address these concerns, which is why the project rarely needs to be torn down so long as the limitations are made clear to the user base. When it comes to machine learning, AI, and data science in general, many people have an issue with trust and confidence in results. These projects are based on complex math and statistics applied to non-standard data of sometimes epic proportions. Viewed from up close, these projects appear to be too convoluted to understand. Although these models are complex, they are built on the basic principles of pattern recognition and optimization. They have reliable metrics to measure and clear definitions of adequate performance. These measures need to become second nature if the legal industry is to continue developing cutting-edge data-driven solutions. Once the concerns over trust are alleviated, the industry can focus on the truly insidious problems plaguing the AI field in other industries: bias, false data, and feedback. These issues do not have clear cut metrics and require a deft analysis to ensure production models remain fair and accurate. ILTA I LT A ' S D I V E R S I T Y , E Q U I T Y , A N D I N C L U S I O N C L I M A T E S U R V E Y ILTA strives to provide an inclusive environment, welcoming participants with all backgrounds and points of view. However, it is not how ILTA sees itself that matters. It is how ILTAns see ILTA. We are taking our Core Values to heart and are looking to our ILTA family to ILTA's leaders understand how participants view the ILTA community in terms of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. To that end, we are excited to launch our first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Climate Survey. This survey, which is completely anonymous will be used as a baseline for evaluating ILTA's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts, as well as to develop educational and networking opportunities to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in the ILTA community. The survey will close on October 19, 2020.  Please feel free to share this with others in your organization - the more responses the better! C O M P L E T E T H E S U R V E Y H E R E Alec Lovlein has 2 dogs: Lila and Huck, but only 1 job: data scientist. He co-authored a few high-energy physics articles before switching to the legal industry in 2019. Now he leverages advanced analysis techniques like data mining and machine learning to create data-driven forecasts and assist legal operations. Outside of the office, Alec is an avid golfer that has yet to break 90 who watches too much TV. Anna and him are expecting their first child in September 2020, so the golf and TV will likely reduce.
