nnovation and Knowledge Management
Lawyers are not such a new phenomenon,
but now that the role has matured, their
influence on firm culture and profitability
is becoming truly significant—and tech
vendors should take note.
What will define the future of law firms?
Many factors will have a bearing on their success.
These include how national economies perform,
how the continuing emergence of new models
and legal service delivery players in the sector
plays out, and if the talent pipeline continues to
supply gifted young lawyers. But these are issues
over which individual firms have very little to no
control. The more pertinent question is: "What is
it that can be controlled internally, and that is truly
critical to the firm's long-term, sustained success?"
My answer is that one of the differentiating factors
going forward is going to be whether the firm
deploys, and appropriately empowers, Innovation
and Knowledge Management lawyers.
