I L T A W H I T E P A P E R | T E C H S O L U T I O N S 15 I nnovation and Knowledge Management Lawyers are not such a new phenomenon, but now that the role has matured, their influence on firm culture and profitability is becoming truly significant—and tech vendors should take note. What will define the future of law firms? Many factors will have a bearing on their success. These include how national economies perform, how the continuing emergence of new models and legal service delivery players in the sector plays out, and if the talent pipeline continues to supply gifted young lawyers. But these are issues over which individual firms have very little to no control. The more pertinent question is: "What is it that can be controlled internally, and that is truly critical to the firm's long-term, sustained success?" My answer is that one of the differentiating factors going forward is going to be whether the firm deploys, and appropriately empowers, Innovation and Knowledge Management lawyers.
