These systems are more cost- effective in the long run because a firm avoids the unexpected costs of upgrades, updates, programming, and support of custom-built systems. • Customized: a solution designed for corporations that require specific tools and features such as telepresence for board room meetings, call-bridging, or recording. These systems are usually designed for rooms that require high-quality and immersive group conferencing. The equipment and services chosen will dictate how expensive the entire system could be. Keep in mind that large amounts of time will be required here, as these systems can take months to build from the time resources have been approved. Input will be required on every single detail to include the design of the room, selecting of furniture, curtains and background fixtures. Decisions will need to be made on components including screen, camera, and microphone placements and sizes, amplifiers, codecs, and who code how these devices operate together. Due to the complexity of these installations, they are usually planned in conjunction with office build-outs or moves. The planning phases can become highly controversial and require balancing the goals and motives of firm leadership, management, IT directors, and partners – pleasing everyone involved in the process is delicate work. Customized solutions ultimately become an amalgamation of many inputs and may end up far away from the original plans. Indeed, the entire VC system may fall victim to mission creep. Because cooperation across stakeholders is paramount, visiting a site created by a vendor is an absolute requirement.
