and (ii) having them work with AI Software to analyze the Guaranties
we closed each year. Sidley associates are given up to 50 hours of special
project credit for approved knowledge management projects like this one.
This was a good project for new 1st year lawyers for a number of reasons:
• They usually had enough time in their first few months after
joining the firm to work on a project like this;
• Teaching them how to classify Bad Boy Acts also served as a
good introductory session for them on real estate lending;
• AI Software is technolo which they are going to use on legal
due diligence projects and this was an opportunity for them to
get familiar with it in a setting which wasn't as time sensitive as
a client project; and
• 1st year lawyers tend to be more tech-savvy and willing to
experiment with new technolo than attorneys who have been
here a while
I hosted a 90 minute training session with our 1st year lawyers for
this project. In this session, I:
• Went through each of the various Bad Boy Acts and explained
how to recognize them;
• Gave the 1st year lawyers a compendium which contained
examples of each Bad Boy Act so they knew what to look for;
• Trained them on the basics of AI Software;
• Assigned each 1st year associate 10 Guaranties and asked that
they review the first 5 Guaranties without AI Software in order
to get used to the language associated with each Bad Boy Act
and then use AI Software to facilitate review of the remaining
Guaranties; and
