28 P E E R T O P E E R : I L T A ' S Q U A R T E R L Y M A G A Z I N E | S P R I N G 2 0 2 0 In 2018, the Associação Brasileira de Lawtechs e Legaltechs (AB2L), a brazilian association, with the goal of empowering law students, future young lawyers, for the current legal market, established a partnership with many law schools, among them, the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), for creating the AB2L Tech Labs, where the students can developing your own platforms and understanding more about legal technolo. Nowadays, among the law schools still running for to updating your curriculums, the young lawyers have some others ways to improve themselves and getting into legal market with a differential skills which will help them to be a more complete professional, they can't wait for law schools to teach them the "yellow brick road". One of the most important skill, in any profession, is being a proactive and responsible for yourself development. The students and young lawyers have to think out the box and out the universities world, engaging with the movement of innovation (in all your ways), looking for courses in another countries which the legal tech are more advanced than yours. The internet decreased the distance between people and knowledge, and we have to use this in our favor, both seeking to learn more, as by spreading the knowledge we acquire so that more people can develop with us. We have to develop our soft skills too. A recent article on Forbes tasks which soft skills are wanted for the professional market and these applied for the legal professional too: conflict management, time management, stress management, communication skills, company culture, customer service, emotional intelligence, personal productivity, storytelling, change management. We can talk about that skill for millions of hours, but just the professional who has plan view of your career is able to know which ones they need to develop most than others, and we have to be training for thinking out the box and finding best and new solutions. Among the knowledge, there are some others important skills what to be delightful the young lawyers have. The emotional intelligence it's one. It's so difficult find a professional who be able to leading with failure, critics, pressure, even complements. These days, one person that I truly admire says to me "the people are hiring for their competence, but are fired for your emotional intelligence's fault". And this is true. Of course everybody has your emotional baggage, but once we know about that and knowing ourselves, we can work on our emotional tricks and improve that type of intelligence. So, it's clearly the young lawyer needs to know, if they want to be successful on his/our career, they can't be "just" a lawyer: they have to be a multitasks professional, understanding about law, but also a little bit of programming, artificial intelligence, knowing lawtechs and legaltechs, management your time and stress, knowing yourself etc., and, first of all, they shouldn't be afraid about changes, they have to be flexible. They need to keep up with the changes, genuinely accept them, knowing your limits and qualities, and among be willing to break paradigms to contribute to legal market and society developments.
