60 M E M B E R R E S O U R C E S On Reflection T he end of the year seems to be the time to reflect on whether or not I have spent the finite hours of my life on the right priorities…and this year is no different. As I reflect on the many goals that I didn't achieve, the projects that were not successful, and the weight I did not lose…wait, why am I only coming up with the negatives? Why don't the positives come first in my long list of reflections? There are so many more positives in my life, yet the negatives are foremost on my mind. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who does this so I'm going to use this little space to remind you all to focus on the positives in your life when reflecting on 2019. So, why do we focus on the negatives first when reflecting? There is scientific data that can help you understand this phenomenon on the internet, but for me, I mostly attribute it all to the fact that I am a professional project manager and am trained to look for risk and problems for a living. (That's what I tell myself, anyway!) So, how can a professionally trained pessimist change her negative thoughts? My answer has been to actively CHOOSE to find the positive. Just as happiness is a choice, I believe that being positive is a choice as well. I needed something to help me focus on the positives of 2019. So, in the spirt of reflection and being positive, I'll share three of the many questions that helped me reflect on my very positive 2019: (1) What was my most meaningful moment? (2) What did I learn? and (3) Where did I grow? These questions prompted me to reset my perspective and list out the amazing things/ people /places that happened in my year. Speaking of lists, this amazing issue of Peer to Peer is filled with the lists of our top content for 2019. These lists basically define what our community of peers has been spending their valuable time writing, listening to and reading and I challenge you to take a look at/listen to this content to see/hear the many perspectives of what there is to learn in this big world of Legal Technolo. We hope you enjoy the recap of 2019 and we look forward to continuing our conversation and content in 2020.
