Publications
Once again - we had a stellar year of
publications. Our quarterly magazine Peer
to Peer continues to be a popular way for
members to learn and stay on top of changes
in their areas of practice. The Summer edition
had so much content it had to be split into two
issues. If you didn't get a chance to read them
when they came out - you can catch up on
them here.
We also had a full calendar of published
white papers. Themes included: Litigation
and Practice Support (2 editions); Project
Management; Knowledge Management;
Marketing and an all-new Corporate Legal
Department white paper. You can check them
all out from here.
This year we partnered with ALA and
LMA for a Compensation survey and of
course, we have the jewel in our publication
crown - the 2019 Technology Survey.
Both the magazine and the white papers
were continually improved upon to contain
more digital assets - integrated interviews
and podcasts. The content is rock solid so for
the next year's resolutions, we will look to
improve the printed publications themselves
and further tie virtual content to every
issue. The planning for the 2020 Technolo
Survey is already underway and we hope to
do some deeper dives on areas that members
have expressed interest in learning more
about. As always, the higher the participation
in the survey - the more meaningful
the results. A plus for all the firms who
participate - they get the results for FREE!
Be on the lookout for the survey opening
sometime in spring 2020 and make sure your
firm participates!
Virtual Education
In addition to the surveys and white papers
mentioned above, our Content Teams have
done a stellar job of producing webinars,
podcasts and blogs on current topics of
interest to our members. Over 183 pieces
of additional content have been produced
in 2019. If you can't attend a webinar live
you usually have a chance to catch the
recording after the fact. We post them to
our Recordings library and you can find
the 2019 webinar recordings here and the
2019 podcasts here. Access them on our
website or from our mobile app; you simply
need to login to listen. Blogs have become
supplemental educational content and are
available for all to read here.
We had 3 new delivery vehicles started
this year in the third quarter. Two are
geared toward addressing late-breaking and
timely topics.
First, we have the Bleeding Edge
podcast. A bi-monthly special, it's intent is to
tackle new, timely, and interesting topics in
legal technolo. The episodes to date can be
found here.
The second was a quarterly virtual
roundtable called "Ripped from the
Headlines". The intent of these virtual round
table meetings is to open a dialogue on recent
industry events and issues. Due to the "just
in time" nature of the discussions, the topics
for each round table event are not determined
until about a week beforehand. Note that
all Ripped from the Headlines are virtual
roundtables that are not recorded. We hope
that the open nature of the conversations
will allow participants to work and speak
virtually with your ILTA peers in a
welcoming, safe space. So when you receive
an email for the next quarter's meeting - be
sure to sign up!
The third new addition to the virtual
education offerings was the production of
quarterly content briefings. A one-stop-shop
document to see all of the educational content
put out the prior quarter. Think of them as
a Table of Contents with direct links to all of
the published content. If you missed any of
them, here are the links to the three done so
far for 2019 content: 1st Quarter, 2nd Quarter,
and 3rd Quarter.
Looking to the New Year - we hope to
move our podcasts to a new platform that
will allow for RSS and better subscription
functionality. We also hope to investigate
LMS to expand our educational offerings with
some more structured courses.
Online Communities
Often cited as one of the most popular
member benefits - the variety always amazes
me. We've added 11 new communities this
year 10 for our members and one for our
business partners. In the past quarter, 5 new
member communities have come online:
Office 365; Intapp; Relativity; Thomson
Reuters and Legal Operations. If you were
unaware of the communities, then I invite
you to log in and visit the Communities page,
page through the listing and join a few that
would be of interest to you.
Looking to next year - I'm sure as new
areas of focus open up - we will be creating
new communities. It was on my list this
year to ramp up an Online Communities
Champion program but the year got away
from me so it's back on my list for 2020. We
also hope to continue to work to refine the UX
to make it a more intuitive experience to find
your community of peers.
As the year comes to a close and the new
one begins - I hope part of your resolutions
will be to utilize all of the online benefits
available to you! ILTA
