8 What stands out most about ILTACON is the people I have met and the relationships I have developed. I've had the good fortune to meet people who have radically changed my professional life – mentored me and given me inspiration. I've also meet spectacular people who I can share my hobbies with, adventure with, and just have late nights laughing over a beer (or two). P R E S I D E N T Angela Dowd Burns & Levinson, LLP adowd@burnslev.com I was a speaker on a panel talking about taxonomies (yes, it was quite a while ago). My case study was largely theoretical and focused on "the development process" rather than the actual details as my firm was not quite ready to share what we were working on. A popular blogger in the ILTA community wrote about our session. There were some positive comments but, what I remember most, was his comment that he was disappointed that there wasn't more substance to my case study. It stung and I was instantly defensive. But… when I thought about it…he was sooooo right. Since then, whenever I'm asked to speak, the very first question I ask myself is whether I have enough real substance to offer on the topic to satisfy that critic. To this day, I thank my friend David Hobbie for that teachable moment. D I R E C T O R A T L A R G E Kate Cain Sidley Austin LLP kcain@sidley.com With ILTA's Board of Directors Q&A What's your favorite ILTACON memory? ILTA is governed by a seven-member board of directors who are elected by the membership. A CEO oversees the operations of the organization.
