Behavior, Impact. This is how you formulate
feedback for this activity.
Situation: Describe the event that took place,
the situation. Be specific about when and where it
occurred, factual.
Behavior: Describe the observed behavior,
don't assume you know what the intent was, only the
behavior that was displayed.
And lastly…
Impact: This is how the behavior made you
feel in reaction to the behavior and situation or the
impact it had.
Once you have done this, it is important
to again ACTIVELY LISTEN. Be invested in the
conversation, understand the why the reaction or
event or activity took place from their perspective.
Once you know, it is easier to move forward to
AGREEMENTS.
Agreements set a standard of how you want to
work, of how the situation should be handled, and
how you would like things to be done in the future.
Be on the same page and have buy-in from the
person with whom you are speaking.
Lastly, make sure that you have made
uninterrupted time to have this conversation. Avoid
disruptions or distractions; this would include your
cell phone (try not to look at it during the meeting or
better yet put it away.)
The time and effort we invest in our people
- whether volunteers, colleagues, teammates, or
family, will always pay great dividends when we are
sincere, take the time to actively engage in dialog and
care about the outcome. ILTA
