ILTA Volunteer Positions It is no accident that ILTA makes mention of the term "volunteer" in so many different places. The spirit of volunteerism runs deep and wide within the association; in fact, ILTA was created by a group of volunteers, is led by volunteers, and still holds as its singular mission addressing the specific educational needs of its members through the voices of volunteer leadership. ILTA fosters, relies on and celebrates volunteers for their real-world experience and their value as a resource for colleagues. Volunteerism takes on many forms and ranges from something as simple as sharing an idea in one of the community forums (the e-groups) to officer-level commitment of running one of the organization's core programming delivery teams. The opportunities ILTA provides can deliver great benefits to both the individual volunteers as well as to their firms/ organizations. Sally in HR hears someone say 'My job sucks' or 'I hate this place'? Not necessarily. How about if she hears an employee say 'I'll see you in court' or 'I'll ask my lawyer'? Probably. Upon the filing of an EEOC action or union grievance? Almost definitely. When a complaint is received? Absolutely. The courts today have an expectation that documentation will be retained, and judges can and will impose sanctions if electronic evidence turns out to have disappeared after a reasonable anticipation of litigation has arisen." It's imperative that Sally in HR knows to alert her manager at the appropriate time. The trainer is responsible for making sure Sally understands her responsibility. Once it's been determined that a litigation hold is an appropriate action, the collection and preservation specialists should be engaged. They will take an initial collection, document it and lock it down in the event of discovery; sometimes they'll sample the data as part of the early case assessment. From that point until the end of litigation (or until it is determined there will be no litigation), your organization's various data silos should be evaluated periodically. Even if the preservation process is assisted by software, an evaluation still needs to be performed. What would you think of a database administrator who never checked the backups for integrity? This is a similar situation. It is up to the preservation specialist to make sure the application is doing what it is supposed to and intervene if it is not. We continually seek committed, energetic individuals who have a passion for learning and peernetworking.
