Law Firm 101From Mystery to Mastery Our goals for Law Firm 101 are: • To develop educational programming to be offered to law schools and law firms to help law students and lawyers beginning their careers understand the practical aspects of working in a law firm • To develop educational programming targeted to law firm administrative staff on topics related to law firm business operations, practice and ethics to help them more thoroughly understand the context of their roles within their firms With Law Firm 101, we intend for law students to combine their knowledge of the law with an understanding of daily life in a law firm so they can hit the ground running when they graduate. We will make sure lawyers beginning their law firm careers are prepared to succeed by fully understanding the operations of the organizations they've joined. We will help every member of the law firm team understand the context of her work so she can make the maximum possible contribution to the firm and its clients. From Mystery to Mastery Law Firm 101's programming will be developed by three teams, each led by a co-chair. Each team will focus on education targeted for one of the three audiences — law students, lawyers beginning their law firm careers and law firm administrative personnel. We look forward to opportunities for collaboration with our sister associations in this initiative and hope to call upon their expertise in developing the depth and breadth of content we envision. We are exploring multiple possibilities for content delivery, including social media, webinars, local meetings and toolkits that permit a firm to adapt the content to its specific needs. With ILTA's track record for educational excellence and the enthusiasm and creativity of an unstoppable team of ILTA staff and volunteers behind Law Firm 101, we are confident we will wind up with a completely new set of stories to tell about seamless teamwork in law firms that rivals the beauty of an NBA championship game or Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev dancing the famed Le Corsaire pas de deux. Shirley Crow is the Chief Information Officer at Farella Braun + Martel LLP. She has been involved in legal technology management since 1989 and has been an active ILTA volunteer since 1999. Shirley currently serves on ILTA's Board of Directors, and she was previously ILTA's regional vice president for the South Pacific region (winner of ILTA's Region of the Year award in 2010 and 2011.)
