24 PEER TO PEER: THE QUARTERLY MAGAZINE OF ILTA | WINTER 2017 Always be an advocate for your team! No maer what, always be an advocate for your team! When you promote their success, it strengthens your position within the firm, and can also boost morale and motivate continued growth and improvement. Here are two ideas to implement aer completion of a project: Provide management with a summary report that highlights what went right, and Administer a short survey to collect user feedback. In the project recap, emphasize deadlines and budgets that were met, or any expectations exceeded. Also, quantify results related to improved efficiency, money saved or productivity gains. Surveys can highlight achievements and provide other employees with the opportunity to compliment the team. This leads to the third idea: Engage others to market your successes for you. Ask end users to share a quote or a story about how your team made a difference, and share a collection of those user testimonials to demonstrate the team's value to the firm. Darrell Mervau FileTrail www.FileTrail.com 1 2 3 Don't wait until the end of the year. Rather than waiting until year end, consider some strategies to promote and advocate for your team throughout the year, increasing visibility and improving morale on an ongoing basis. Establish a monthly or quarterly recognition program to spotlight individuals or teams that excelled in their roles or went above and beyond in their support of the organization, and promote the recognition firmwide. Publish a regular enewsleer to increase general awareness of all that your team is contributing. Recap recent achievements, provide status updates and announce new, upcoming projects to inform the rest of the firm—including the C-suite—of your team's ongoing contributions. Invite upper management to join a breakfast, a lunch or an aernoon event with cake to celebrate your team's successes. Recognize individuals and groups for their contributions and present a video or slideshow highlighting achievements, including statistics or quantifiable impacts made to the organization.
