XXXX Two Teams Upgrade to SharePoint 2007 According to the 2012 ALM Law Librarian Survey, 31 percent of responding law firm library departments have responsibility for their firm's intranet. Law firm library managers see this as a potential growth area for their departments, especially as it relates to the integration of internal and external content and resources. The library departments at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner LLP and Fish & Richardson P.C. currently utilize SharePoint 2007 for their intranets and are planning upgrades to SharePoint 2010 in the next several months. Finnegan migrated from an internally created intranet to SharePoint, whereas Fish & Richardson upgraded from SharePoint 2003. Both departments recognized a need for a centralized starting point for library information, including open, streamlined and quick access to all information resources. Both library teams wanted their portals to be accessible from anywhere, whether users were at their desks, in their home offices, sitting in the airport or at trial. Any portal should also be scalable and evolvable based on the availability of content, user feedback and the ever- changing legal landscape. The different versions of SharePoint, particularly the newer versions, allow for easy content updating and layout manipulation. Finnegan and Fish & Richardson are top intellectual property law firms with over 375 attorneys. Both library departments include nine full-time employees.
