WWW.ILTANET.ORG | ILTA WHITE PAPER
Several of us in the knowledge management (KM) community
were asked to contribute "exceptionally good ideas worth considering"
to this year's KM white paper. My first instinct was to write about some
of the cuing-edge technologies that could forever change the way we
deliver legal services. I could talk about:
» The newest examples of legal process re-engineering that create
greater efficiencies in maer management, reducing the time
aorneys spend litigating, mediating and negotiating selements
for their clients.
» Client-facing online services that leverage digital technologies
to inform clients about the most critical legal compliance
issues, reducing the time they need to spend consulting with
their aorneys.
» The latest technologies that firms should explore: document
automation with tools like Contract Express to make it easier and
less labor-intensive to generate legal documents, expert systems
like Neota Logic to facilitate legal decision-making, and document
analysis systems like Kira Systems to make document review and
due diligence more efficient –– all requiring less aorney time.
» The seemingly futuristic technologies that are closer than we know
–– Fastcase, Ravel Law and ROSS –– to make legal research more
efficient, enabling aorneys to find legal cases and precedent in
nanoseconds, rather than having to expend the voluminous billable
hours previously required to research the law.
