For over three decades, the International Legal Technology Association has led the way in sharing knowledge and experience for those faced with challenges in their firms and legal departments. ILTA members include firms of all sizes and all areas of practice, all sharing a common need to have access to the latest information about products and support services that impact the legal profession. To represent the wide variety of needs of legal KM practitioners, this year's white paper aims to provide a balance of practical takeaways and theoretical food for thought. We kick off with a road map for architecting an organization's information to support its business strategy and achieve transformation, and then we look at how the skillful use of high-quality metadata can help organizations boost their enterprise search results. Authors walk us through tailoring KM initiatives to meet the diverse needs of specific practice areas and how KM professionals can continue to advance knowledge sharing in the face of client pressures to lock content down in our security- conscious world. You'll read an intriguing case study of one firm's success with implementing an innovative incentive program that truly has lawyers contributing to KM, and we'll explore how to expose, capture and share tacit knowledge –– the elusive know-how that constitutes any organizations' invaluable intellectual capital. One of our authors has provided KM insights from non-legal professional services organizations that bring to light stimulating food for thought, and we finish with advances that will shape KM's future. Although one size does not fit all in the KM world, most of the articles in this publication were inspired by direct requests from ILTA's members, and we trust you will find something that's just your size.
