Signing in to Office 365 could vary depending on the type of account you have, with an additional slight difference by device. Just remember your user name and password and all will be fine — and if you see the checkbox to keep you signed in, by all means, check it! Once signed in, tap or click a tile on the dashboard interface to launch any of the apps or services. COLLABORATING ACROSS DEVICES We tried real scenarios across devices and platforms using a diverse selection of Microsoft, Apple and Android products. We started by drafting a document containing various complex features in Word 2013 on a PC with Office Professional Plus installed (the "installed version"). Our collaboration scenarios included accessing and editing the original file using each of these devices: • Microsoft Office Online • iPad mini • Surface Pro 3 • Android v4.4.4 phone • Windows Phone 8.1 The complex features in the original document were: • Multilevel numbering using heading styles • Table of contents • Track changes and comments • Section breaks For each device, we completed standard edits using the complex features. We paid special attention to: • The document's on-screen clarity and readability • Which features were available and how they worked • Any gotchas About the Author Annette Sanders is a senior trainer and migration specialist with PayneGroup. Contact her at shoriuchi@outlook.com. you use "premium" features. For example, you cannot insert a section break when editing a Word file on the iPad, although page breaks are okay. (Granted, you can see existing section breaks in the document because that is part of the core product.) If you are on the go and need to connect to an online conference, the Skype app (formerly Lync) is available for Windows phone, iPhone, iPad, Android phone and more devices. The experience includes instant messaging, email and video calls. Because Office 365 is a subscription service, administrators can easily manage and configure their enterprise environment, including version upgrades and regular updates. Developers can create solutions across mobile, Web and desktop platforms — including Windows, iOS and Android — using Office 365 application program interfaces (APIs) and other Office development tools. SECURITY, PRIVACY, AND COMPLIANCE For Office 365, Microsoft is committed to delivering multiple levels of security and privacy protocols to safeguard data. These include multilayered physical data center security, data encryption, auditing controls, configurable privacy access controls and even establishing U.S. federal compliance standards and requirements. Some include HIPAA compliance, providing additional contractual assurances through Data Processing Agreements (Microsoft's extended privacy agreement with an organization), certain ISO certifications While editing in Word Online, you can always access the installed version of Word by clicking "Open in Word" found above the ribbon.
