ILTA WHITE PAPER: JULY 2015 WWW.ILTANET.ORG 54 Such solutions can aid law firms with benefits such as cost- effectiveness, quick deployment and access to greater resources. Even though cloud computing is an emerging strategy, the endorsement of expert working groups and the way this strategy allows for elasticity, availability, improved resource utilization and support for multiple users are combining to make it ubiquitous. There are three main models of hosted service: infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS). Here we will discuss SaaS, which offers a system that generally is more cost-effective and easier to manage while requiring less maintenance and storage space than on-premises solutions. Some firms will find, though, that an on-premises solution will continue to best fill their needs. About the Author Sue Keno is the Vice President of Keno Kozie Associates, a leading national IT integration and support consultancy that has provided integration and helpdesk services to law firms for more than 25 years. Sue specializes in client management, document management and application services within the law firm environment. She can be contacted at skeno@kka.com. On-Premises or SaaS? It Depends on Your Needs Are you considering moving your on-premises document management system (DMS) to a hosted solution?
