He assists in firmwide planning, implementing and directing of information governance programs. Contact Johan at jwidjaja@morganlewis.com. LESSONS LEARNED Clients are pushing for value and efficiency, commonly presenting these types of questions: How does the firm use technology? How are legal projects managed? Can the firm provide a better price or an alternative fee arrangement? How does the firm protect client data? 5 If there is one common thread among legal professionals on the forefront of legal innovation, it is curiosity. I cannot stress enough how much value being curious brings to the table, or how easy it is to foster that curiosity by keeping abreast of the latest trends in the legal industry and other tech spaces. Setting up Twitter lists and following thought leaders, both individuals and companies, can provide a steady stream of interesting and provocative ideas. Continuously learning how others are recognizing and solving problems is crucial to coming up with your own solutions. Often an innovative idea can transfer from one space to another. For example, I could pitch a Match.com-like solution for pairing contract attorneys and firms. Professional peer organizations such as ILTA are another great channel for continuous learning. To maximize the benefits of a peer network, go to meetings, find out what others are doing and engage in discussion groups. Many thought leaders are involved with organizations such as ILTA and are usually very generous with their time. Never Stop Learning Legal technology professionals must adapt to these demands, but this isn't the first time we've had to adapt...and it won't be the last.
