It's an old cliché, but for law firms it still holds true that a
dollar saved (or billed) is a dollar earned. In response to the recession and
client pressure, law firms have become more focused on costs and more
sophisticated about developing metrics around those. Many have focused
their efforts on cost recovery strategies, and there have been a number of
industry surveys over the years on expense data capture. However, those
numbers have rarely focused on actual law firm capture and billing rates.
That has now changed.
