Many law firms are now considering a more methodical approach to LPM. Some are now exploring models and automation tools, while others are hiring project managers who’ll work with the practice. But practical pitfalls abound. Many attorneys do not believe change is necessary, and others find formal project management methodologies cumbersome. Even the firm’s clients may not be ready for formal processes. Yet firms and clients agree that in order to manage risks and costs — as well as meet the demand for AFAs (alternative fee arrangements) — this is an area ripe for change and improvement. ILTA member panellists provide their views and share their practical experience implementing and encouraging the adoption of more formal project management in the practice.
