57 I L T A N E T . O R G W elcome to 2022. Law firms and legal professionals will continue to look for cloud solutions to manage their content and do their work. ILTA's 2021 Technology Survey is a testament to this point, with 49% of respondents stating their Document Management or Enterprise Content Management solutions are in the cloud, or they are planning a cloud migration within the next 12 months. Thanks to the new work-from-home and hybrid- workplace reality, the industry's philosophy toward cloud technology has significantly evolved. The latest ILTA survey reveals 41% of respondents go "cloud with every upgrade" while 24% are already "mostly in the cloud". With the cloud no longer a major distraction, law firms and corporate legal teams will be increasingly focused on maximizing the return of their investment in core technology platforms and move away from managing individual solutions. This means more deeply utilizing the various capabilities of a platform, building apps and integrations that extend the platform further, and ultimately creating a seamless experience for users to do work. The industry will lean on software-as-a-service (SaaS) infrastructure and legal tech vendors with reputations for delivering dependable innovation – afforded by multi- tenancy and the benefit of automatically "inheriting" new features, functionality, and security upgrades. Native experiences, part and parcel to true platformization, will continue to outpace the rest of the industry. Working inspired starts with productivity that is on par with security and governance and eliminates the 'either or' argument of old regarding functionality versus security. For companies like NetDocuments, the platform not only serves as the home for content management, but also the comprehensive hub for the work surrounding the creation, planning, and collaboration around documents and discussions. Externally, investment in legal tech from private and public institutional investors will continue as the industry races to consolidate fragmented vendors, merge, and reimagine point solutions, all part of a greater mission to modernize the law firm technology stack and improve lawyer productivity. ILTA Dan Hauck NetDocuments Chief Product Officer Dan Hauck is an experienced lawyer, entrepreneur, and award-winning product visionary. Dan leads the planning and development of software solutions across all areas including document management, collaboration, and governance at NetDocuments. Josh Baxter NetDocuments CEO Josh Baxter brings a broad background in global technology leadership including 20 years working in engineering, customer success, operations, and sales. Since his arrival in 2017, Josh has led NetDocuments to unprecedented growth and global expansion of its 3,400+ customer community.
