KMSTANDARDS IN PRACTICE Omitted Language and Concepts: The benchmarking features can be extremely helpful to ensure quality and consistency in drafting. If a match is made between the compared document and the index, the text in the compared document is highlighted in red if it is unusual. However, what's not shown are the terms or concepts that are not found in the compared document. Thus, you'll know that you're off the mark, but you won't have much guidance around what is typically found but has been omitted in your compared document. Administrative Ease: As could be expected, we get better and faster with each project we create. However, many hours are needed to get a good handle on how much to turn each dial and where each dial sits. and, more important, support broader business decisions. Finally, we have been working feverishly on a collaborative platform through which a slew of technology solutions can be delivered directly to clients. We see KMS as one arrow in that large quiver. While we hold specifics close to the vest, we are working actively to incorporate KMStandards within that platform. We are dedicated to enhancing the client experience and creating "delight," and we see this marriage as helping us in that mission. Bringing this tool into the fold was a calculated bet, and one we would make again. It is precisely the kind of effort our team, the Legal Technology Innovations Office, should be targeting, and we are now turning heads. Our queue of work is lengthy and our collaborators are many. Our challenge at present is to expand the tool's footprint in as many directions as possible, and there are many we see on the horizon. FINAL TAKE KMStandards is a powerful tool. It's not perfect, but it enables us to do things we could not otherwise. NEXT STOPS We have big plans for KMStandards. On the home front, we intend to build dynamic precedents for all major types of documents drafted by our firm. It will take some time for that to happen, as we are just beginning our journey, but we have our sights set in that direction. We also plan on going back through and providing a layer of metadata on projects that will help us analyze particular aspects about documents that cannot be captured easily now. This will help us provide better trending data to our clients that can drive their legal work Andrew M. Baker, JD is the Director of Dustin F.
