How you can work to break down knowledge barriers Tiger Eye have worked with a number of firms to help them break down boundaries in knowledge sharing, and overcome cultural barriers in KM, but one of the hardest barriers to break down can be those that we put up ourselves as knowledge workers. The most common question we see new Knowledge Managers ask is "how do we make our firm value knowledge?". It's only by ensuring that every member of staff doesn't just value their knowledge but values their role in managing it, that we can we truly embed the importance of KM within the organisation. And, as we've highlighted, we can encourage Knowledge Management outlook that employees can take into every task they undertake, by: • Involving HR in the KM strategy right from the start, so that they can take advantage of HR's hugely influential power to embed the KM vision in the roles of existing staff, and future employees • Working to incorporate the value of knowledge within every single leadership role in the organisation, actively reminding ourselves as Knowledge Managers that every manager can act as their team's KM leader, and act as an ambassador for the knowledge mission • Making space and time for cross- departmental communication, by providing space for conversations through video conferencing and messaging Because we know that knowledge is human, and it's strengthened when we work together. In 2018, Dave and his team launched Blueprint for Knowledge Management – a KM platform designed for DMS systems, developed using insights from practising lawyers worldwide. In 2019, Dave spearheaded the launch of the Blueprint User Community, an initiative which enables Tiger Eye's KM platform users to actively steer the product's roadmap and drive the platform's future.
