I L T A W H I T E P A P E R | K N O W L E D G E M A N A G E M E N T & M A R K E T I N G T E C H N O L O G Y 4 W hen 2020 started, most of us were reviewing our project goals and i m p l e m e n t a t i o n plans for the year with some comfort, knowing projects were broken down by quarter and had allocated resources. Then – BAM! Priorities changed; timelines shortened, and roles transformed. The part Knowledge Management played within a firm advanced overnight. The biennial surveys serve to show us trends in KM, and how law firms are growing. However, COVID-19 impacted the progression of KM tremendously. The results show an incredible uptick in collaboration tools – Microsoft Teams (77%), Zoom (66%) – blowing up in usage were minimal considerations only two years ago. SharePoint (55%) and Skype (44%), the 2018 leaders, still held on strong, too. Most notably, remote working moved KM team members from a centralized location covering multiple locations (50% in 2018) to largely virtual teams spread out and supporting multiple offices (54%; increasing by 26% over 2018). And the ILTA's 2020 Knowledge Management Survey Results by Tara Patterson, Marketing Content Management Specialist, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP and Daniel Wood, Experience, Director of Counsel Assistance, Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP
