57 I L T A N E T . O R G information, Foundation makes it possible for lawyers to locate relevant firm experiences based on characteristics of the matter. Lawyers can connect with the timekeepers who have actually done the work to learn from their experience, all while keeping a client's work product confidential. This contextual data can be extended via integration with enterprise search tools and firm intranets, effectively becoming a key connector in the firm's knowledge networks. A firm intelligence platform is the way to maintain a firm's value proposition as a law firm. It is clearly existential. Syndicating Knowledge to Other Systems While a firm intelligence platform is an ideal place to find and use information for some applications, transformed data can also be used to improve the utility and efficiency of other firm systems. A simple example is pushing out updated narratives and/or biographies to a firm website or intranet portal. But there are more strategic uses of this data as well. We have had great success integrating contextual data from systems like Foundation into the new generation of enterprise search platforms, particularly iManage Insight. Integrating these two platforms allows us to level up the enterprise search experience with the addition of aggregated, transformed data from Foundation. In addition to being able to locate synthesized experience information, Foundation adds meaningful context, critical search filtering, and a means to easily locate those who've worked on relevant matters, even within the bounds of the least privileged security model. Combined data can also be used to feed and personalize intranet portals and client extranets, displaying more relevant results and meaningful context around clients, matters, and lawyers versus discreet windows of separate but related information in the interface. Finally, AI application results and analytic insights are only as good as the underlying data they are being fed. Enriched and normalized data in firm intelligence platforms can help to train AI applications with accurate information. Similarly, the information shared with data lakes can be mined for advanced business intelligence and predictive analytics. Quietly Breaking the Status Quo Many firms are looking to AI-enable solutions within their innovation strategies. But for AI to truly deliver insight, a strong data foundation is needed as a condition precedent to success. From the emergence of firm intelligence platforms like Foundation, we have believed that the combination of well constructed, curated data combined with key integrations can power AI applications by serving as powerful learning sets. This lets us extend AI analysis across historic legacy systems, fulfilling the promise of AI while simultaneously addressing today's requirements for analytics and content enrichment. From there flows true innovation. ILTA Joshua Fireman is Fireman & Company's founder and president.
