3 I L T A N E T . O R G F R O M T H E C E O W elcome to Spring P2P! I am writing this on March 9 – or I should say, re-writing, having changed the original column somewhat... This issue of Peer to Peer is devoted to Challenging the Status Quo. The status quo of business operations in the legal sector and beyond are currently being challenged by two significant issues. I am optimistic that by the time this issue of P2P goes to press, these issues will be well on their way to resolution. First, we have a major ransomware attack on a significant host of eDiscovery data. This has resulted in providers of legal services – regardless of organizational type – looking at their business partner contracts, their client and customer notification requirements, and their litigation timelines to ensure they are properly managing any associated risks. Second, we are globally dealing with COVID-19. Not being an epidemiologist, I will not comment on the "perception vs. reality" issue around this infectious disease outbreak. However, I will say that many ILTA organizations are responding with a more circumspect view of travel (temporarily) and an in-depth review of disaster preparedness plans. ILTA's job is to ensure that all ILTAns have the programming, networking opportunities, and access to our trusted resource community needed to tackle and master these challenges. We are here to help! In this issue, you will find articles to assist you in looking at both operations and legal services delivery in a different way, due to emerging technolo, technolo maturation, and workforce diversity, among many other topics. The connecting thread throughout is to look at the opportunities afforded by every change, as well as to risk challenging the status quo, in order to achieve operational excellence and improved client/customer service. There is another thread that connects this issue's content: optimism. Optimism is one of the hallmarks of my personal leadership style. Leading with optimism allows you to challenge the status quo, with confidence, because you see the rewards as well as the risks. We hope that this issue of Peer to Peer – and all of ILTA's outstanding content throughout this, our 40th! anniversary year, will provide you with the information to fuel your optimism and challenge your status quo.
