knowledge of current privacy laws and
indicates you know how to apply them in your
organization. CIPP offers four jurisdiction-
focused certifications for the U.S. private sector,
U.S. government, Canada and Europe.
For compliance professionals, perhaps one of these:
• CIPT – The Certified Information Privacy
Technologist (CIPT) credential demonstrates
the knowledge to build organizational privacy
structures from the ground up, securing data
privacy at all stages of IT product and service
lifecycles.
• CISSP - Earning the Certified Information
Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
demonstrates you have the skills to effectively
design, implement and manage an effective
cybersecurity program.
• CGEIT - Certified in the Governance
of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) certification
demonstrates experience, knowledge and

align IT with strategic enterprise goals.
So what about me? Yes, I'm still an 'out of date
no longer relevant Novell CNE' and hold various
other application-specific certifications, but those
certifications don't speak to my current role or
expertise. I'm an Information Governance professional,
but also a technologist. I've decided that in my role at
my firm, a CIPT is more valuable than other potential
certifications I could choose to pursue.
My dad taught me that the measure of a day
was if you learned something new. Every day is an
opportunity to learn, and certification is a way to show
the world that not only have you learned, but you have
mastered. ILTA
