36 This exercise involves a deeper look at the social dimensions of a problem by having formal discussions with staff about the process or workflow issues that frustrate them most. This requires empathetic listening and an opportunity for them to share personal experiences and ideas. Only then can a firm identify what shifts will have the greatest impact with the least amount of burden. Assessing the human perspective and taking action on those insights provides a roadmap for meaningful change. Sometimes it's a matter of reintroducing existing and underutilized technolo; other times it will demand the acquisition of new technolo. Engaging in this type of firm-wide introspection might seem like an enormous and risky endeavor but the hard work of looking inward will have immeasurable rewards. Returns are realized not only on firm profitability and higher client satisfaction levels but — most significantly — an upswing in wellbeing for your firm's biggest asset: your lawyers. Over the last few years, there has been an ever increasing need in the legal profession to talk openly about the highly taboo and, sometimes, stigmatized topic of suicide.
