Change eDiscovery

achine learning and artificial
intelligence are transforming
eDiscovery, allowing legal
teams to quickly locate relevant information
in large amounts of data and make review
calls with a high degree of accuracy.
Despite the undeniable power that this
technolo already has, we're still in the
early stages of harnessing AI's true potential.
In the coming years, the ways in which we
interact with data throughout the eDiscovery
process will fundamentally change. In fact,
we're beginning to see the first signs of AI's
next evolution —emotionally intelligent AI
— which goes beyond keyword searches to
examine data in a deeper, more human way.
Despite its name, emotionally intelligent
AI isn't exactly capable of peering into our
souls — yet. What it does do, though, doesn't
sound too far off from what our brains do in
social situations every day — often without us
even realizing it.
Because the eDiscovery process is
mostly text-based, emotionally intelligent AI
doesn't have access to some of the information
that we use in real life to determine another
person's emotional state — facial expressions
and body language, for instance. However, by
applying a higher level of comprehension to
a set of data, and by considering the context
surrounding its creation, this technolo
can pick up a set of clues and piece together a
human story, not just a data story.
Traditionally, in eDiscovery, we trudge
through large amounts of information using
various types of keyword-based searches
(for example, Boolean searches, which
