I recently returned from ILTACON, where I was delighted to see that the spirit of cooperation remains strong within the litigation support community. In addition to the well-received litigation support day and several lively panels, the conference scheduled roundtable collaboration sessions. I attended all three ILTACON collaboration roundtables, and I probably could've kept talking (and listening) for at least three more. Where else can you discuss iPhone collection tips with representatives from a Canadian law firm, the US Department of Justice, an AmLaw 200 firm in Ohio, and a large corporation? Sitting in a circle, discussing pain points – that's the value of peer-powered education. We may be adversaries in the courtroom, but litigation support folks are always willing to help each other by suggesting new software utilities, staffing models or predictive coding tips. I left these sessions not just with new software to investigate, but with new ener and new friends. Corporate, law firm, international, government, attorneys, staff – we all contribute to making the litigation support and eDiscovery industry dynamic and collegial. I hope you can join us in Nashville in 2020. The articles in this mini-whitepaper touch on several of the topics that came up over and over during ILTACON. We all have information governance challenges around case closure, and new privacy laws in California, Europe and other jurisdictions are prompting organizations to examine the risk of retaining sensitive client data. The two articles regarding data disposition should help you draft a new policy or refine existing procedures to reduce that risk. We're excited to launch our tools, tips and tricks podcast series around Relativity, ILTA's newest strategic business partner. The first three podcasts in the Relativity - Tools Tips & Tricks series are: "Am I Certifiable?", "Making the Move to the RelativityOne Cloud" & "Relativity from the Attorney Perspective". We know our work has value, but what metrics will assure your attorneys and clients see that? What techniques can you use to gain repeat business? The upcoming TED talks on demonstrating the value of litigation support highlighted here should answer these questions. The litigation support content coordinating team is committed to year-round programming to continue in the collaborative spirit in our industry. If there are topics you would like us to address or if you'd like to join a project team, please reach out to ILTA Litigation and Practice Support content team member Ricky Brooman or me.
