58 I 'm reminded of a standup set by one of my favorite comedians Sebastian Maniscalso who did a bit about when his father wanted to learn "internets" and he wanted help to get "on the line". For most of us who deal with technolo every day that set is pretty amusing. It is … until the moment it happens to us. We're "on the line" and now feeling like the elderly father as we don't know how to navigate … or find … or do … something. I'm hoping that this column will be able to provide some tips, tricks and updates on what's happening online at ILTA. Looking for that needle in the [ILTA] haystack ILTA has a long history of its members producing content. Whether it be educational webinars; podcasts; blogs; publications or speaking at in person events - or even just the continuous discussions that go on in our communities on a daily basis. Members and business partners have been producing quality content for years and the volume that has accrued on our website has become somewhat daunting to sort through. Recently we did a webinar on ILTA Online Tools and Resources. If you were unable to attend - the recording can be found here. A small subset of the webinar was a presentation on search. Here are a few of the tips mentioned during the webinar on doing an effective search. For members to get the most results - you should be logged into our website before starting your 1 search - otherwise your results will only bring back content that is publicly viewable. Not to worry - if you do start a search without logging in - at the top of your results screen you will get a reminder that you should login to see all of the site content available to you. Located at the top of our website you will find the traditional magnifying glass which will open up a Search box. Search can often times bring back a multitude of results. The system default is to treat multiple words as having an "or" operator in the syntax so the quickest way to narrow your result set is to put "and" in between multiple words The next step for narrowing results is to click on User Content under Categories to enable the selection of additional filter options/facets on the left side of your screen. When you find content that you want to view you can click on it but what I've found helpful is to Ctrl+Click on the results content you want to view. This will open up the content in an additional tab and if you find it's not the content you were looking for - you can easily go back to your search results in your original tab and continue exploring other results. 2 3 4 5 ILTA Online Benefits: Life "on the line" In this new, recurring column, ILTA Online Services Administrator Jeanne Martinez, shares tips, tricks, and her amazing ILTA knowledge.
