32 F or more than 125 years, The Law Society of NSW has been the voice of the State's legal profession - guiding, supporting and educating our solicitor members and the wider legal profession. We have a long and rich history of member support, and while our strength and influence have been shaped by the past, we are also constantly looking ahead. legal practitioners must be equipped to serve clients innovatively now and into the future. Today, we are on the brink of what's being called the "next industrial revolution" with the legal profession undergoing change at a pace never experienced and in ways most lawyers would have found hard to predict at the beginning of the 21st century. Automation, Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence are already being used to undertake legal tasks and solve legal problems. All this technolo and innovation is presenting challenges and opportunities for legal service providers and their clients. There is much discussion within the profession about what it all means for the viability of practice and how solicitors perform their work. The impact of innovation on the various segments of profession also differs. One need only to look at how changes in areas such as document drafting and review, legal research, Legal Regulator and Membership Body B Y M A R T I N A L U D V I G O VA ediscovery and billing, analytics and prediction is affecting the work of solicitors. In the legal assistance sector too, technolo has the potential to reduce costs and increase efficiencies meaning more disadvantaged and vulnerable people could have access to justice. And there's more digital disruption around the corner, as the use of technolo in law becomes more mainstream.
